Indulgent Warming Drinks

What better way is there to enjoy the cool autumn season than with a warming drink? From cheeky cocktails to comforting coffees, we’ve collected a range of drinks that are sure to lift your mood and keep you cosy during the frostier months. Gather your friends, wrap up and enjoy a drink or two.

Harvest Chai

A twist on a classic, warm up with a cosy cup of Chai.

Serves 6

Ingredients

  • 2 broken cinnamon sticks
  • 20 black peppercorns
  • 16 whole cloves
  • 8 cardamom pods
  • 1tsp. ground ginger
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • 1l whole milk
  • 55g light brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp. loose black tea
  • 85ml Bourbon or Rye Whiskey.

How to make it

  1. Pulse all of the spices to a powder.
  2. Simmer the milk in a saucepan. Remove from the heat and add the spices, sugar and tea. Leave it to stand for 10 minutes.
  3. Strain the chai and wipe out the saucepan. Rewarm the chai over a moderate heat, then stir in the whiskey and serve hot.

The season isn’t quite the same without a glass or two of mulled wine.

Ingredients

  • 1 orange
  • Bottle of red wine
  • 110g sugar
  • 60ml water
  • 10 whole cloves
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 3 peppercorns
  • ¼ tsp. nutmeg

How to make it

  1. Combine all the ingredients (except the wine) in a pan and boil for five minutes.
  2. Reduce heat and add the wine. Heat to just before boiling point before straining into cups and garnishing with cinnamon sticks.

Bonfire Berries

Refresh your senses with a light berry filled beverage that’s perfect for bonfire night.

Ingredients

  • 35ml The King’s Ginger
  • 10ml Merlet Crème de Mure
  • Pear cider
  • Lemon wedges
  • Blackberries
  • Ice (optional)

How to make it

  1. Mix the King’s Ginger with the Merlet Crème de Mure and top up with pear cider. Add 3 lemon wedges and a few blackberries.
  2. Pour over ice or gently warm in a pan before pouring into a flask.

Seasonal Apple Sparkler

Embrace bubbles with schnapps and sparkling wine.

Ingredients

  • 85ml apple cider
  • 20ml Cinnamon Schnapps
  • 85ml Champagne or Sparking Wine
  • Cinnamon & sugar for rim
  • Apple slices to garnish

How to make it

  1. Combine cinnamon and sugar in a shallow dish. Wet the rim of the glass with water and dip into the cinnamon sugar.
  2. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice, apple cider, cinnamon schnapps and honey granules. Shake for about 30 seconds until granules are dissolved.
  3. Strain into the prepared glass. Add champagne and gently stir to combine before garnishing with an apple slice.

Pumpkin Latte

A seasonal favourite with a dark ‘rum’ twist.

Ingredients

  • 250ml milk
  • 3 tbsp. tinned pumpkin
  • 1-3 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp. pumpkin pie spice
  • 125ml hot strong coffee
  • 30ml dark rum
  • 30ml rum and coffee liqueur
  • Whipped cream

How to make it

  1. Heat milk, pumpkin and sugar on a medium heat until hot but not boiling.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla, pumpkin pie spice, coffee, dark rum and the liqueur.
  3. Pour into a mug and garnish with whipped cream.

The Red Velvet Hot Chocolate

A global favourite is now available in a warm liquid beverage.

Ingredients

Hot Chocolate:

  • 900ml whole milk
  • 55g granulated sugar
  • 280g semi-sweet baking chocolate
  • 1tsp. vanilla extract

Cream Cheese Whipped Cream:

  • 55g heavy cream
  • 110g softened cream cheese
  • 110g sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • ½ tsp. vanilla extract

How to make it

  1. Make the cream topping by whipping the cold cream until soft peaks form and then setting aside. Place cream cheese, sugar, salt and vanilla in a bowl and beat until well combined and creamy. Gently fold in the whipped cream and refrigerate until ready to use.
  2. Add milk and granulated sugar to a medium saucepan and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and stir in chocolate until melted.
  3. Add in the food colouring and vanilla before pouring into cups. Serve with marshmallows and cream cheese whipped cream.

Mid-Winter Mojito

A light tipple full of this season’s flavours.

Ingredients

  • 225g fresh cranberries
  • 200g sugar
  • 250ml water
  • 10 mint leaves
  • 55ml rum
  • Soda water

How to make it

  1. Add the fresh cranberries, sugar and water to a medium size pot. Simmer on a medium heat for 10 minutes but don’t let it boil.
  2. After the sugar is dissolved and the mix turns pink, allow to cool at room temperature.
  3. In a tall glass, mix together the mint leaves and lime juice. Fill glass with ice and add 55ml of the cranberry mixture and 55ml of rum. Top with soda water and garnish with fresh cranberries.
