Spiced Beef Balls with Rich Tomato Sauce

serves 4-6

Ingredients

  • Lean minced Scotch Beef

  • Spicy pork sausage

  • Paprika

  • Chilli powder

  • Green olives

  • Tomato ketchup

  • Tomato passata

Cooking Method

  1. In a large bowl mix 454 g (1 lb) lean minced beef, 2 spicy pork sausages, split and remove meat from sausage skins, 5 ml (1 tsp) paprika, 2.5 ml (½ tsp) chilli powder, 6 green olives, pitted and chopped, 30 ml (2 tbsp) tomato ketchup, 15ml (1 tbsp) fresh parsley, chopped. Shape into about 20+ balls.
  2. Place 400 g (approx.) jar or carton passatta, 5 ml (1 tsp) chilli powder into a large saucepan. Turn heat on and drop one by one the meatballs into the sauce. Bring to the boil, lightly shake the pan and turn down, and simmer for 20 – 25 minutes.

Serving suggestions

Serve spooned into toasted pittas with shredded lettuce, rice, sour cream and tomato salsa and extra olives.
